Painting challenge

This months Virtual Paintout Challenge is in the Czech Republic. The challenge, walk around virtually on google maps and pick a scene to paint. I always enjoy walking around the cities that are picked, places I may never visit. Oh the wonders of the internet! So strolling around the Czech republic I found this woman, with a bucket, in her blue bathing suit and I wondered what the heck she was doing? Any guesses? One of the things that crack me up about this challenge is the people who get caught by the Google maps camera never suspect they are now a painting hanging in someones home! Ha! So, here is the photo from google maps and my interpretation of it! To go to Google maps here and see her zoomed in!
Enjoy... be well... Tj.

New painting

I finished a painting this weekend for the Following the Masters painting challenge. This challenge is open to all mediums and you can replicate or give your own interpretation of the master painting being working on. But this month is a little different. For Challenge Nine no specific painting or Master artist was provided, it was left up to the individual to show who you are inspired by. I've always loved Leonardo da Vinci's Man and I saw a similar interpretation on a t-shirt once. It's always been on my to paint list so I gave it a shot! Black and white is not my usual, but I like it! I will send to the blog and see if it gets added. So here is Tj's Bass Man, acrylic on 12x12 canvas. Be well and go create! Tj.

The virtual paintout challenge

Ok, well I think I've finished this one... I'm calling it done! The Virtual Paintout, a city is chosen for the monthly challenge, this month was Lisbon Portugal. Each artist must use a view of the city found using Google Street View as the reference for the painting or drawing. I virtually walked around Lisbon and found this little street where it seemed every window had laundry hanging, so I call this "Lisbon Laundry" it is acrylic on 24 x 18 gallery wrap canvas.

Here is my painting:

And here is the photo of the street from google maps:

I changed the angle a little, and made the walls much brighter! You know me and color. I've always thought to do a whole series of laundry hanging in the wind. I have been asked to participate in a group art show in November called Urban Landscapes at Vox Studios in Sacramento. I believe I am going to run with this theme and do laundry hanging in urban settings. My dear friends Carolee and David are in Italy right now and have already captured a couple of images for me to use. I am very excited and appreciate it! Thank you both and I hope you are having a great time!!!

That's it for tonight, off to bed... be well everyone! Tj.

2 new paintings.

The first is a painting for the Different Strokes from Different Folks challenge. Cupcakes!!

Here is the photo that was provided by Karin Jurick for the challenge.

The next is a photo of my painting called "Ooo sugar!" It is acrylic on 12x4x1.5 canvas. Giant ants added by my imagination! The Different Strokes blog has hundreds of great artists who participate in the challenges. You should take a few minutes and check it out!

The second is a new challenge blog I am doing for the first time. It is called Following the Masters. This was a challenge to attempt to capture the feeling of western art. I had a simple idea, this is a small painting acrylic on 6x6 canvas. Titled Saguaro Sunset. This is a newer challenge and not as many participate... yet. But also great artists to be found! This one won't be for sale, my hubby Joe LOVES cacti, he liked this one a lot, I decided to give it to him to put in his teaching studio! I love you honey!

Ok, well that is all for today (or tonight)! Be well... Tj.

Fun New Challenge

I found this great blog, another painting challenge called The Virtual Paintout The artist must use a view found through Google Street View as the reference for the painting or drawing. There is a different city postd every month, and you go explore that city using Google maps to find an image you are interested in! This months challenge was London England. I have always been intrigued by the London Eye, in fact I believe Sacramento should have a Sacramento Eye, wouldn't that be fun! So the London Eye is my subject.
Here is a photo of the street view from Google Maps and also my painting. It is 11x14 acrylic on gallery wrap canvas. I'd like to challenge all my artist friends to join in the fun! I sure learned my way around London!!

Be well, be kind. Tj.

The challenge this time was of a still life. I have not really done any still life painting but thought I'd give it a shot. The practice is always good! So here is the challenge photo and my interpretation of it. To see others go to the Different Strokes blog http://differentstrokesfromdifferentfolks.blogspot.com/

Also, here is one of the paintings I've done for the Alley Arts Festival, actually I was thinking I might not sell this one I just really like it! Peace. Oh and I have had some bumper stickers made, more pierced girlz rock stickers… I'm really into orange these days!
Be well… Tj.

Different strokes from different folks challenge

This next challenge was interesting. Artist Karin Jurick took a photo of a Pennsylvania farm, washed out the color and told us to use our imaginations and invent the color! Woohoo! I love that! So, here is the photo challenge, and also my intrepretation. Go to the Different Strokes blog to see the others too!

I am also working on more works for the next second saturday, Alley Arts Festival. More to come... Be well!! Tj.

Different strokes from different folks challenge

Ok, I found this really cool blog, it is artist Karin Jurick's blog. Every couple of weeks she posts a photo and for any artist who would like to join in - she challenges to paint or draw or etch it in their way. There are over a hundred active participants... some really great art!

The first photo below is for the current challenge photo. And then my intrepretation... I call it "All Stop" yes I saw the new Star Trek movie yesterday it may have had some influence on me! Well I do love Star Trek!!! And there is a close up too! :) Go to the Different Strokes blog. I am going to submit to her, but she has asked us to hold on to them until next week... so stand by!!!

The Jazzed show went fairly well. I did get to spend some very fun time with some of my Swell Sisters! Always love that! I got to meet Alyson's mom... who's name is totally escaping me right now! She does read my blog so I am so sorry! I totally apologize, I'm having a senior moment. I know it will either come to me in the middle of the night, or as soon as Alyson tells me I'll be like I knew that. But it was really nice to meet you! I hope we get to spend some time together again soon. I did sell one painting the night of the reception, the one of Ron Carter. A BIG thank you to Lenny for being a faithfull fan!

Be well!!! Tj.
